Transcribe! is the best way to learn songs fast on bass, to my knowledge. If you’re struggling to learn your favorite bass lines by ear, you need to check this out.I’m not gonna write a whole sales-y page to try to sell you on it. I just want people to know about this hidden gem of a program that allows you to learn more challenging songs, and get through them faster than if you didn’t have the software.
By using Transcribe!, you can slow songs down (without changing the pitch), tune out-of-tune recordings (i.e. play along with the Beatles without re-tuning your instrument), and create loops for difficult sections that you need to hear over and over again. You can also use the EQ function to either isolate the bass frequencies to hear the part better, or you can cut the bass out for a quick-and-dirty playalong track for yourself. It’s a total game changer. It’s taken a lot of guesswork out of the song-learning process for me, and I highly recommend it to all my students. You still have to use your ear ultimately, so I don’t think of it as “cheating,” just as facilitating faster learning over time.
Especially now that I’m doing a lot of cover songs and song tutorials on my Youtube channel, it’s really important to me to transcribe each bass line without any errors before I go public with my cover or lesson. Using Transcribe! gives me total confidence that I know a bass line in and out.
I can’t recommend this program highly enough. It comes with a free 30-day trial, and it only costs a one-time $39 for a full license after that.
