Another one in our series of scale videos for bass, today is minor scale day! From Marley’s Exodus to Beethoven’s 5th to Maiden’s The Trooper to Taylor Swift’s Trouble, the minor scale is one of the foundations of music as we hear it. This video will show you two different hand positions you can use to play the minor scale on the bass in one octave.
We’ll also learn a couple riffs from “Roxanne” by the Police and “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne and see how they fit into the minor scale.
Some bonus tips for practicing scales:
– play them in every key
– try playing them on only one string (ie C major from the 3rd fret of the A string to the 15th fret of the A string)
– improvise with them
– play them behind your head
– play them in multiple octaves
– have fun!
